Ben Somrak was born and raised in the Gunnison Valley and is a sixth-generation native of Crested Butte, with founding family roots dating back to the 1860s. He is a graduate of Western State Colorado University, where as a college student, Ben worked closely with his mentor Sean Norton and developed a passion for the design and build trade. Ben has always been quite obsessed with the concept of keeping the harsh mountain weather out of the inside of a home, and creating a year-round sanctuary for Clients to enjoy. Ben’s many years of building experience offers Clients a keen understanding of both the design and build phase of projects in this often-brutal high mountain climate.
Along with his wife, best friend, and business partner Kate Somrak, Ben strives to create the ultimate “one-stop-shop” home building experience that there is. Ben understands that building a home is often one of your largest investments, and that’s something he doesn’t take lightly. His biggest priorities are to incorporate value through trust, skill, craft, experience, and transparency to ultimately guarantee the success of each and every project. Many times Ben is the architectural designer of projects as well, which, in his own words, “lets us cook off our own recipes” and create great homes in an efficient manner without multiple lines of communication to become tangled-up in.
Ben was once voted back-to-back winner of “Best Skier” for “Best in the Butte,” a poll of the Gunnison Valley community. He is also a retired firefighter where he spent 12 years serving his community with pride, and earned the coveted 2007 “District Person of the Year” award. During rare off-time away from a demanding work schedule, Ben enjoys spending time with his wife Kate, daughter Avery (named after one of Ben and Kate’s favorite mountains), and son Canaan, as well as enjoying craft beers in the Colorado sunshine with his friends and Clients alike.
